Terms of Service

1. Platform Provider Protection (Section 230)

Sword and Quill is an interactive computer service provider. Under 47 U.S.C. § 230, we are not the publisher or speaker of user-generated content and are immune from liability for content posted by third parties.

Users are solely responsible for the content they create, publish, and share on this platform. By using Sword and Quill, you acknowledge that the platform merely provides the tools and infrastructure for creative writing — it does not author, endorse, or verify any user-generated content.

2. The Scribe's Code (Content Standards)

All users must agree to and abide by the Scribe's Code upon registration. This includes:

• All written content must be original, human-created work
• No AI-generated content, plagiarism, or copyright infringement
• No hate speech, harassment, or content promoting violence against individuals or groups
• Proper use of Content Runes to label mature themes
• No exploitation of platform mechanics (word-dumping, automation)

3. Moderation Rights

The Sword and Quill team reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to remove, edit, or delete any stories or comments that violate our community standards or the Scribe's Code oath.

Moderation actions may include but are not limited to:

• Unpublishing stories that violate content policies
• Removing comments that are abusive, harassing, or inappropriate
• Suspending or banning accounts that repeatedly violate community standards
• Editing content labels or metadata for accuracy

4. Alpha Build Disclaimer & Data Loss

Sword and Quill is currently in Alpha Build. As such:

• Features may change, be added, or be removed without prior notice
• Users acknowledge that Sword and Quill is not responsible for data loss due to server crashes, bugs, or platform changes
• We strongly recommend all writers maintain independent backups of their work using the Shunn Export feature or by copying content to a local document
• Game mechanics (XP rates, quest requirements, decay rates) may be rebalanced during the Alpha period

5. Privacy of Stories

All stories created in The Quill are strictly private to the user's account and are NOT visible to the public unless the user explicitly selects "Publish to The Great Library."

Unpublished stories cannot be viewed by other users, administrators, or anyone outside of the account holder. Publishing is always an intentional, opt-in action.

6. Intellectual Property

You retain full ownership of all original content you create on Sword and Quill. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your stories, notes, or other creative works.

By publishing to The Great Library, you grant Sword and Quill a non-exclusive, revocable license to display your content on the platform. This license ends when you unpublish or delete your work.

7. Acceptance

By creating an account and using Sword and Quill, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you must discontinue use of the platform.

These terms may be updated periodically. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
